St Ives Twinning Association Annual General Meeting 2012

The Twinning Assocaiation AGM will be held on Thursday 15th March 2012 in the Council Chamber of the St Ives Town Hall. The meeting will start at 8.00 pm.

St Ives in Cambridgeshire was twinned with Stadtallendorf in Germany in 1988, but links have been in existance since 1967. The St Ives Twinning Association exists to promote the links between these two communities. Stadtallendorf is situated about 15 miles east of Marburg, which is 55 miles north of Frankfurt. It is possible to drive there in a day (via the Dover to Calais ferry or the Channel Tunnel), but you could fly from Stansted to Frankfurt and take a one hour train journey to Stadtallendorf.

If you are interested in visiting Stadtallendorf then the St Ives Twinning Association can give you some information about the town and contacts there. If you are from St Ives you are likely to receive an extra warm welcome!

Bursaries and Grants

As a result of donations from both Town Councils, a yearly bursary has been established. The Bursary is for individuals and anyone can apply for financial assistance to visit Stadtallendorf. An application form (PDF) to apply for a Bursary can be downloaded here. Grants are awarded annually to clubs and societies within St Ives and the surrounding villages that are organising trips to, or hosting groups from, Stadtallendorf.

St Ives and Medvode, Slovenia

St Ives also has links with the town of Medvode in Slovenia. Slovenia was part of the old nation of Yugoslavia and lies south of Austria, north of Croatia, and east of Italy. It has a population of around 2 million people and is a beautiful and mostly unspoilt country. The scenery is varied, from high Alps in the north to the Adriatic coastline in the south. Medvode is a town about the same size of St Ives, and is only 8 miles north of the capital Ljubljana. There are direct flights from Stansted to Ljubljana airport, and a 15 minute drive takes you to Medvode.

Grants are awarded annually to clubs and societies within St Ives and the surrounding villages that are organising trips to, or hosting groups from, Medvode.
