27th November 2011: Christmas Market

We will again be having a stall at the Christmas Market in St Ives and have invited our friends from Stadtallendorf to join us. This is always a very enjoyable event and the amount of Glühwein (German mulled wine) consumed each year goes up and up!

June 2010: Visit to Stadtallendorf for ‘Hessentag’

A large group comprising the Mayor, Town Clerk, other Town Council representatives and members of the Twinning Association have been invited over to ‘Hessentag’ – a county-wide event which is being hosted by our twin town Stadtallendorf for the first time. It is a very prestigious affair which Stadtallendorf feel honoured to be hosting. We are going for the weekend and there will be a parade on the Sunday which will be televised. We will have representatives from the town of St Ives, the St Ives Twinning Association and the St Ives Table Tennis Club taking part, as well as several other organisations. This visit is also serving (unfortunately a year late!) as the 20th anniversary of the original twinning between the two towns, so in honour of this fact we have several members of the original delegation taking part again this time. We are also hopeful of making some new ‘twins’ while we are out there.

May 2010: Visit to St Ives by an official delegation of Stadtallendorf Town Councillors

During the first bank holiday weekend, a small party of dignitaries from Stadtallendorf will be visiting St Ives to witness part of the St Ives 900 celebrations. They will be here during the Anglo-Norman re-enactment and their time in St Ives will include a reception by the Mayor, a tour of the town and local sightseeing to include Cambridge and the villages.

Easter 2010: Visit to St Ives by Stadtallendorf Table Tennis Club

As part of the twinning between these two Clubs which has been active since 1981, Stadtallendorf TTV will be visiting at Easter. There will be individual and team tournaments during the weekend at the St Ivo Leisure Centre, as well as a day trip to London and local sightseeing to include the start of the 900 anniversary celebrations in St Ives on Easter Saturday. Some of those coming over will have been on every trip since 1981; many of the participants will be juniors visiting for the first time. In total, we expect about 40 people to be coming over, with an age range from 10 to 70.
